Research MentoringResearch mentoring represents ongoing creative collaboration between teachers as researchers and other researchers. My definition of 'research mentoring' is distinct because it focuses on self-study through co-enquiry. In giving my account of what I call research mentoring I am drawing on my experience as a research mentor in the DfES' Best Practice Research Scholarships Scheme which ended in December 2004. Instead of enabling mutual learning, research mentoring is usually restricted to passing on information by a mentor to a mentee, in a university setting . I assist teachers in explicating their own knowledge through the practice-based discipline of co-enquiry. We validate one anothers' learning as we work together as 'experts'. Updated March 2005 |
